Tenganan Pegringsingan Culture Festival – 21 to 23 June 2025 @Tenganan Village, Karangasem
A rare glimpse into Bali Aga heritage, featuring sacred rituals, pandan battles, traditional gamelan, and sacred double ikat weaving in a centuries-old village.
The Tenganan Pegringsingan Culture Festival is a three-day celebration in one of Bali's oldest and most traditional villages, offering deep insight into the island's pre-Hindu Bali Aga culture. One of the festival's most iconic rituals is Mekare-kare or pandan battles, where village men engage in ceremonial duels using thorny pandan leaves to honor the God of War, Indra. This symbolic act of bravery is a powerful representation of community unity and ancient spiritual beliefs. Besides, guests can watch the hands-on making of gringsing woven fabric — one of Bali's most sacred fabrics, which is only produced in this village using the double ikat technique. The festival opens a window into the rarely exposed spiritual and social life of the Bali Aga community.
