Bali Kite Festival – July 20 & 21, 2025
Giant kites, drumbeats, and team battles fill the Sanur sky in this once-a-year joyful beach tradition.
Every July, Sanur’s Padanggalak Beach turns into a field of battle (but in the sky, yep, you read it right). The Bali Kite Festival brings together groups of locals from all over the island, each with their own giant kites (some stretching over 10 meters long!) shaped like birds, dragons, and mythical creatures. It’s part competition, part sacred ritual — with teams judged on the design, launch technique, and how well the kite “sings” as it flies.
The energy is contagious! Just imagine groups of men sprinting barefoot across the sand, carrying massive bamboo-framed kites, while drums beat in the background and crowds cheer. It’s exciting to watch, especially when the sky fills with colors and long tails dancing in the wind. If you’re after something visual, traditional, and uniquely Balinese, guys, this one’s worth a day at the beach.
