By Putri, 2023.12.04

If you’re looking for boutique hotels, natural beauty, and a range of unique experiences, Bali has everything you need. What makes these boutique hotels so in-demand? Because there are fewer rooms and villas here, it feels more secluded. A more intimate atmosphere and personalised staff service can help make it feel more exclusive too!

If you’re interested in booking a smaller property, take a look at our selection of small luxury hotels. Within our list, you’re sure to find at least one that suits your every need. Let’s start!

Bedroom in one the Top 8 Boutique Hotels in Bali

Alila Villas Uluwatu

Alila Villas Uluwatu may be small, but its 50-metre-long outdoor swimming pool definitely isn’t! Located just 15 minutes away from Jimbaran Bay by car, it also offers guests a picturesque panorama of the Indian Ocean. To keep you warm and dry during high tides, their Balinese-style villas have a raised outdoor area. It has all the comforts that you’ll find in luxury accommodation, like a small TV and a coffee maker. And to make it easier for you to take in the ocean breeze, there’s a huge space outside where you can dine.

Speaking of dining, the Warung Restaurant makes authentic Balinese and Indonesian food in an open kitchen so people can see. If you’re craving Western cuisine, CIRE is a lovely restaurant with fantastic views at 70 metres above sea level.

Bambu Indah

Nestled amidst stunning jungle and rice fields, Bambu Indah is a unique hotel located in the heart of Bali. It’s the perfect choice for travellers who enjoy nature! The accommodations in this place are styled after various elements of Javenese culture, such as the old wooden houses that people once used for weddings. So if you want to get a taste of the rich culture of the place as well, we highly recommend this place.

Still, it doesn’t short you on the lavish experience that comes with modern times. There’s an exclusive space where you can practise yoga. And for deeper relaxation, they offer spa treatments as well.

La Reserve 1785 Canggu

I love how Western and South Eastern influences are combined here, giving guests something that you don’t normally see even in high-end accommodations. However, La Reserve 1785 in Canggu does way more than just stand out. They have designed every service, program, and activity in the hotel to help you feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Among the many delightful details are the French garden and the Balinese pool where guests have been known to stay for hours. If you’ve been here before, you probably also love the architecture of the place. If you’re looking to unwind, there’s a Secret Spa where you can get treatments and services from trained wellness experts. And to live it up, the La Brisa beach club is for you.

The Asa Maia

Uluwatu is a location in Bali known for its many luxury hotels and accommodations. That’s why it’s so hard to get a bad experience when trying out experiences in this location. And if you’re looking for something that has deep Indonesian feel, The Asa Maia is probably your best pick.

What we love about this place are their choices in design. They went for luxurious and tasteful architecture, which you’ll appreciate if you don’t like something over-the-top. The saltwater infinity pool, rain showers, and bluestone bathtubs all contribute to this chill aesthetic. Are you a vegan or pescatarian? You don’t have to worry about what your choices are for lunch or dinner. Their restaurant has menus fitting your diet. In the main building, there is also a lot of space for activities, including the library, spa, gym, and art gallery.

Mamaka by Ovolo

If you’ve tried Ovolo-operated boutique hotels in Australia and Hong Kong, I’m sure Mamaka will be a great fit for you! Located by the Kuta Beach, I love that the interior uses a lot of ocean colours that you can see literally outside the window. Of course, what makes the rooms amazing are the Balinese touches in the decor.

Once you’re all settled, start your adventure in the various places in the hotel. My top picks are rooftop swimming, wall climbing, and surfing. And if you love smelling the ocean breeze, head to the beachfront bar and kitchen. Of the menu items that I’ve tried, what truly made their mark are the Asian foods with an unexpected twist. The Ox Tongue Nasi Goreng and Katsu Ramen are simply to die for! And if you need a little pick-me-up,, the One Pink Goat cafΓ© has delicious caffeine-filled drinks.

If you’re interested in the various delights that Mamaka offers, prices average at US $250 per night.

The Bale Nusa Dua

A spacious and opulent destination for those seeking a tropical getaway. You won’t find any regular rooms or suites here. Instead, there are 29 large ‘compounds’, each with its pavilion, private pool, gardens, and a butler available at all times.

The inner space of the establishment has a stylish and modern feel. Their roofs resemble those you will see throughout Bali towns, but feature outdoor showers, and their bathtubs are adorned with flowers.

Being here will make you feel you’ve been taken to a unique and amazing part of the world. There are two restaurants you can pick from. The Bale serves food from around the world that is currently in season, while the Tapa Bistro offers a variety of small dishes from the local area, an Asian menu, and cuisine from other parts of the world.

Stone House Ubud

Stone House Bali is a hidden gem on the fringes of Ubud, immersed in the tranquillity of the surrounding jungle. It offers a lot of privacy and has all the modern comforts you need. The owners of the hotel, Wendy Kassel and Walker Zabriskie, designed it to have a rustic-chic style. The interior of the hotel includes wooden ceilings and floors, as well as unique features like sinks made from reclaimed driftwood, carpets woven by hand, and bathtubs made from deep wood.

There is a big pool outside that is surrounded by the jungle. It is an excellent spot for relaxation, although Stone House was built as a homely addition, so it doesn’t have anything like a gym or spa. Instead of a restaurant, there is a traditional shared dining area where you will get fresh fruit for breakfast and local meals throughout the day.

Expert opinion

I have been living in Bali for ten years and never stopped exploring. Indeed, this approach has become one of life’s mottos since then. Bali is a diverse and beautiful island. Whenever and wherever you arrive, you will witness the majestic natural scenery of this island. Finding accommodation for a getaway in Bali is the start of a real adventure.

So here are my three best selections of the best boutique hotels in Bali:

Bambu Indah Ubud, Stone House Ubud, Le Reserve 1785 Canggu

The reason why I chose these as my best selection is because of the natural scenery, variety of dining options, and the interior design. Their hospitality is something that you will remember as they produce the consistency of excellent service!

I found out that staying in a boutique hotel is a perfect option for an affordable, luxurious, and comfortable stay during your holiday in Bali!

Enjoy Bali!
