You don’t have to dine at the local warungs all the time in Nusa Penida. Though only a handful of fine dining like on the Bali mainland is available, it doesn’t mean your options are limited to nasi goreng or mie goreng. Nusa Penida bursts with many hidden gems when it comes to restaurants and places to eat. And once you tick off all the things to do in Nusa Penida, the only thing left is discovering where to have your lunch or dinner. Stay tuned and keep scrolling, as I’ll be showing you where to eat in Nusa Penida.

Food from one of the Nusa Penida Restaurants
  • Top Restaurants in Nusa Penida

From beachside restaurants to hidden gems away from the tourist crowd, these are nine of the best places to eat in Nusa Penida.

  • 1. Acropora Bar & Restaurant

Nothing says fancy dinner and sunset views quite like Acropora Bar and Restaurant. Nestled above the cliff overlooking Mushroom Bay, enjoy sipping your Manta Illusion and having a bite of Chicken Samosa as the sun goes down. Follow it with the savory yet tender Betutu Duck for an authentic Balinese dinner.

The bamboo structure feels like something out of a storybook. The ocean view with Mount Agung in the background, and the infinity pool, bring out the stylish and laid-back vibe. And with Sangria on the drink menu and the live music, who says the best restaurant in Nusa Penida doesn’t know how to throw the fun?

  • 2. Mambo Beach Restaurant Beach Bar & Cafe

Do you know what feels great after a good dive? Nibble on the Under the Sea Platter with prawns, squids, and scallops, and refresh yourself with Coco Pandan Slushie. Mambo Beach Restaurant is part of Mambo Dive Resort, but you don’t need to put on your wetsuit to sit on the beanbags with a glass of Penida Passion.

Mambo Beach Restaurant is not just a prime spot for sundowners. The live music brings the groove while having the smoky Chicken Satay for dinner, complete with the fairy lights. During the day, feel free to dip in the ocean and enjoy the crispy (and super filling) Surfer’s Fries afterward.

  • 3. The Chill Penida

The Chill Penida elevates the word ‘chill’ to new heights. Salmon & Asparagus Omelette for breakfast? Yes, please! Sipping the refreshing and sour Asian Summer after soaking up the sun in the infinity pool is a must! Satisfy your seafood craving for dinner with the steamed freshest local fish fillet with a special homemade sauce.

The acoustic live music every Saturday and the in-house DJ every full moon add the groove to your chill-out session. With no minimum spend, a shower to freshen up, and the spectacular view of the seaweed field, it doesn’t matter if you have a shisha (yes, they do have it) or chicken tacos, you’ll understand the new meaning of chill at The Chill Penida.

  • 4. Warnakali Restaurant

You’ll change your mind about the best restaurant in Nusa Penida once you visit Warnakali. The Classic Fish Meuniere and Tuna Wakame alone will not look out of place in the upscale restaurants in Nusa Dua. Treat yourself with a couple of glasses of Melon Mojito (once is never enough, I warn you), and you won’t miss your brunch on the Bali mainland.

Feel free to take a plunge at Warnakali’s infinity pool or get that Penida sun on the sunbed. And with different events every day, from Sushi Night every Wednesday and Sunday to live acoustic every Tuesday and Chill ‘n Grill on Saturday, Warnakali shows you the lavish and sophisticated side of Nusa Penida.

    • Cuisine: International, Indonesian, Seafood

    • Opening hours: 7 AM – 11 PM

  • 5. Secret Penida Restaurant & Bar

Nothing is secret about Secret Penida Restaurant & Bar. This is the place where Frozen Aperol will cool off the Penida heat, and the Secret Curry will warm your soul. No other way to start your day than having the freshly brewed Americano, and the winning combo of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, with the ocean right in front of you.

Sitting on the terrace under the canopy and semi-boho décor, Secret Penida appears to be floating on the sea. Ordering the tangy Penida Sunset while watching the sky change colors is a delight! Dress to impress every Tuesday and weekend when the live music is happening, as you’re going to stay long after you’re finished with your Seafood Spaghetti.

  • 6. Amok Sunset Bar and Restaurant

At Amok Sunset Bar, Yolo doesn’t only mean You Only Live Once, but also one of their signature cocktails with arak bamboo and vodka. And whether you’re on team Shu Mai Pork dumplings or Tipsy Ribs, get ready for the superb blends of spices and herbs. Even the comforting Nasi Goreng Amok will leave you wanting more.

Amok Sunset reminds me of the fancy place in Uluwatu. Boasting two infinity pools, two dining spaces, and bars, plus a garden area, choosing a table has never been this hard! And with Mount Agung standing tall when the sunset falls, Amok delivers a posh vibe without you having to break the bank.

    • Average price: US$ 8

    • Location: Google Maps

    • Cuisine: International, Asian

    • Opening hours: 11 AM – 11 PM

    • Phone numbers: +62-823-3555-5016

  • 7. Penida Colada Beach Bar

At Penida Colada, no one will judge you for ordering Classy Avocado for lunch. However, I’d rather have Grilled Octopus when it’s available, as you can only order it when it’s in season. And if you need something oomph to boost your day, Coffee Colada has enough espresso and vodka to deliver the punch.

Put on your fins and goggles as you can snorkel straight from the deck at Penida Colada! Sing along as the live music is playing, and you’re on your second glass of Spicy Margarita. Because after a scrumptious Rendang Burrito, who can blame you for having a food coma in Nusa Penida?

Detailed Info about Penida Colada Beach Bar

    • Average price: US$ 7

    • Location: Google Maps

    • Cuisine: Modern Australian, Indonesian

    • Opening hours: 8 AM – 11 PM

  • 8. Cactus Nusa Penida

A beach club with no entrance fee and minimum spend? That’s Cactus Nusa Penida for you. Although you need to rent the towel (it’s only $1 or IDR 15,000), it won’t take the joy out of munching on the perfectly seasoned Octopus Skewers. And if you’re FOMO of the matcha craze, the blend of matcha’s signature taste with mango puree in Mango Matcha Sunrise is what you need.

If the diamond-shaped pool doesn’t excite you, feel free to plunge into the ocean, as Cactus has direct access to the beach. And sip your third Cactus Mai Tai in peace as Cactus offers free pick-up and drop-off service to your hotel. Who cares about the live music or sunset when you get this superb service?

Detailed Info about Cactus Nusa Penida

    • Average price: US$ 10

    • Location: Google Maps

    • Cuisine: International

    • Opening hours: 11 AM – 10 PM

    • Phone numbers: +62-821-4769-0707

  • 9. Warung Forest

So many places to eat in Nusa Penida, but Warung Forest remains one of the best in my book. It’s only here that you get a kilogram of fish, grilled to perfection, and served with the zesty sambal matah for only IDR 200K. The Chicken Rica-Rica never fails to impress me, as it has the right kick of heat and sweetness.

Warung Forest tucks away from the main road, and it’s your literal definition of a hidden gem. It’s a humble place, but nothing modest about the flavors. The mango juice is by far my favorite, because it’s naturally sweet, thick, and super refreshing. And get ready for a big portion of Chicken Curry, you may need help finishing it!

    Detailed Info about Warung Forest

    • Average price: US$ 5

    • Location: Google Maps

    • Cuisine: Indonesian, Balinese

    • Opening hours: 9 AM – 10 PM

    • Phone numbers: +62-831-1607-4175

Expert Opinion

You certainly can’t compare the restaurants in Nusa Penida with the variety of the best restaurants in Bali. But taste-wise, Nusa Penida is not that far behind. While many things have to be shipped from the Bali mainland, Nusa Penida never runs out of the freshest seafood and seaweed. And you don’t need the best cafes in Bali to have your morning avo toast or smoothie bowl, because some cafes and restaurants in Nusa Penida will get your brekkie sorted.
