Bali Island is well-known for offering visitors diverse forms of excitement in a hot and sunny location. Tourists will come to Bali for many different reasons. Nature, food, culinary delights, culture, wellness, nightlife, and many other experiences people will share with their friends and family back home or post on Instagram.

The wonderful outdoors is one of the popular reasons tourists come to Bali, but there are many other things to do on this island! Indeed, thanks to the combination of beaches, waterfalls, jungles, and rivers, rafting is one of the famous activities that attracts tourists.

1. Telaga Waja Karangasem

People a refting along Telaga Waja Karangasem River

Exciting river rapids that are fun for families and have the best views? That’s the Telaga Waja Karangasem River for you. What I like about white water rafting here is that you have a lot of options. The level of difficulty starts at moderate. But if you’re really up to the challenge, you can up the thrills by taking a more challenging route. So, if you’re in a group with a beginner, a rafting tour can still be a wet and fun-filled adventure for everyone. Travelers willing to take this ride in the waters should spend around 2.5 hours in the river. Be prepared to go through challenging rapids, too. That’s why, apart from implementing protocols requiring safety equipment, only visitors ages nine and above can participate. But even if you meet the minimum requirement to go whitewater rafting, you should still recognise how much energy it takes to actually go through the drops and rapids to complete the course. So, beforehand, make sure you get enough rest.

This rafting adventure goes through Rendang Village and gives you a nice change of scenery, thanks to the surrounding mountains and forests. So, let me tell you: it’s definitely worth it! If you like attractions that will pump your heart rate while you also enjoy the beauty of nature, this is something you should try.

Rafting Operators Recommendation:

  1. Avatar Rafting Telaga Waja.
  2. BMW Rafting Telaga Waja.
  3. Sobek Rafting Telaga Waja.

If you have kids with the group who are between ages 7 and 9, the best alternative will be the Sobek Rafting Telaga Waja. This way, everyone can still book an amazing rafting adventure.

2. Ayung River Ubud

Discover a rafting experience tailored for kids, offering both cultural and natural marvels while ensuring the utmost safety and enjoyment as you paddle towards a new adrenaline rush.

Also, the Ayung River is located in the most sought-after Ubud tourist spot. So, if you stay in Ubud, getting to the Ayung River will be easy. However, if your family decides to stay near Kuta Beach, it will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes to arrive. You can enjoy looking out for birds, monkeys and other wildlife during that time.

The Ayung River is an excellent choice if you’re coming with kids between 5 and 8 years old. Going here for your Balinese rafting vacation will suit everyone because the course is relatively easy. It only takes 1.5 hours to complete, and there aren’t a lot of rocks and rapids either.

While on the raft, the kids in the group will also enjoy looking at many places and sceneries. There are waterfalls, old temples, rice fields, and villages on the path. Your guide will also show you unique carvings on the river walls.

Rafting Operators Recommendation:

Not all operators who offer rafting services on the Ayung River in Ubud accept children aged 5–8, so this is something worth noting. Here are some operators that allow young children on rafting adventures:

1. Mason Adventure Rafting Ubud: Allows children at age 5 YO and above

2. Sobek Rafting Ubud: Allows children at age 7 YO and above

3. Payung Rafting Ubud: Allows children at age 7 YO and above

3. Melangit River

A family-friendly fun rafting experience in the deepest nature, ideal for beginners and customers looking for a first-time rafting vacation.

The Melangit River is additionally found within the Klungkung area, particularly in Bakas town. From Sanur Shoreline, arrive at the Bakas Levi rafting spot on the Melangit Waterway in around 45 minutes.

Embarking on Melangit River rafting together with your family offers an energising time as your course takes in the characteristic magnificence of Bakas town in Klungkung, Bali. Through your journey, you’ll find separate ranges, be able to spot natural life in numerous forms and admire the tall, rich trees lining the riverbanks.

The Melangit River Rafting River is ideal for families with kids under 12 years old as it doesn’t require any particular preparation and can be finished quickly. The excursion starts at around 9 am and finishes before 2 pm.

Rafting Operators Recommendation:

Not at all like the choices accessible on the Ayung River in Ubud or the Telaga Waja River in Karangasem, the Melangit River has only one option for rafting operators.

Safety Recommendations

If you’re into having a great adventure that comes with great scenery, Balinese rafting will give you everything that you’re looking for. Personally, I can’t get enough of it! That’s why, even though I don’t have friends to accompany me sometimes, I still go for it! You won’t have issues finding a rafting company in Bali that can guide you and help maximise the experience. But no amount of money is worth your safety. Apart from the prices, you should also consider the safety features and rafting guide. Look into their cancellation policy for this activity as well, just in case you need to make changes to your trip.

Expert Opinion

I have been living in Bali for ten years and I love the island for many reasons. One of the things that I like about Bali is its beautiful nature, and not only for beaches and sunsets, or rice fields and sunrise. There is also the waterfall and the river. Many activities will satisfy your adventure plans in Bali and the holiday packages tend to earn a high rating.

Rafting is the most intense and exciting natural activity to try in Bali. Based on my personal experience, it is always fun and full of adrenaline. There are some moments when I keep wondering when this is going to end! At the same time, the view and the fresh air will bring you to many more beautiful Bali experiences.

It is worth trying if you plan to have an adventure in your holiday itinerary.
