Our experts' experience from Campuhan Ridge Walk

Walking the Campuhan Ridge was honestly one of those moments in Ubud where I felt like I could finally slow down without feeling like I was missing out on something. It’s calm, it’s green, and it’s the kind of place that makes you pause, look around, and think, “Well, well... So this is why people love Bali.”

Photography Opportunities

Plenty of open skies, palm-lined paths, and sunrise or sunset light that make every photo pop without even trying (just come early in the morning to avoid the crowds).

Walking Experience

An easy, breezy walk with gentle hills and fresh air. This one is just perfect for escaping the buzz while still feeling close to Ubud.

Nearby Attractions

Why do We Choose the Campuhan Ridge Walk

What We Like

  • Easy and accessible. The trail is beginner-friendly and close to Ubud town, making it super easy to fit into your day.

  • Beautiful Views. Rolling green hills, palm trees, and open skies make it a refreshing escape without going far.

  • Free Entry. I mean, who doesn’t like something free? Especially when it comes to a famous spot like this one. You can enjoy the walk without spending a cent.

What We Don’t Like

  • It can get crowded. Of course, being a popular and free spot has its drawbacks. It can easily feel busy during peak sunrise and sunset hours.

  • Limited shade. Most of the trail is exposed, which can get hot if you go too late in the morning.

  • It's not a loop trail. You walk back the same way you came, which may feel repetitive if you’re looking for a varied route.

So, the trail isn\'t standardized, I\'d advise against wearing flip-flops. Otherwise, it basically looks like any other trekking trail where you\'re likely to fall about five times. Two stars for the cute kittens and puppies at the end.

Campuhan Ridge Walk is a wonderful trail for anyone looking to enjoy nature in Ubud. Surrounded by green hills and valleys, it offers a peaceful escape from the busy town center. Along the way, there are plenty of scenic viewpoints and great opportunities for photography. The trail is generally easy to walk and suitable for most visitors. I would especially recommend visiting early in the morning or in the late afternoon. The temperatures are more comfortable, and the scenery is even more beautiful during these hours. At the end of the walk, there are cafés where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a drink. It is definitely worth setting aside a few hours for this peaceful and enjoyable experience while visiting Ubud.

We started the Campuhan Ridge Walk from the Ubud side. Throughout the walk, you\'re accompanied by lush nature and a wonderful forest view. At the end of the path, we came across a very sweet cafe; it had a swing and other activities – I don\'t remember the name, but the owners were very friendly. A little further on, you reach a small village full of cafes, rice terraces, and beautiful views. Also, since it\'s accessible by car, you can easily call Grab if you don\'t want to turn back. If you enjoy nature walks and are looking for an activity that isn\'t crowded, it\'s a great option.

Over the years, I’ve reviewed more than 185 places — focusing on nature spots like secret beaches, scenic trails, and cultural corners, while also keeping up with the latest restaurants, cafés, and beach clubs. Through OnBali, I share real, first-hand insights to help you explore Bali like a local and discover the kind of places that don’t always make it onto Instagram.
