What We Like and What We Don't about Yoga Barn

As impressive as the wellness programs and sessions at Yoga Barn are, there are a few things that made our experience a little less memorable. In general though, we only have positive experiences to bring home.

What We Like

  • The variety of classes every day is a heaven for wellness enthusiasts. With numerous options, The Yoga Barn deserves its accolade as the most complete wellness establishment on the island.

  • The accommodation and Garden Kafé make Yoga Barn a one-stop place for everything wellness. Not many places in Bali feature these three in one place, and it's certainly beneficial if you're coming to Bali strictly for wellness purposes.

  • All of the classes and workshops scheduled are released in one calendar month. This makes it easier for you to choose and build your plan to visit The Yoga Barn.

  • An array of professional teachers are present in all classes and workshops. The short bios of every teacher are present on the website, so you can easily check their credentials.

  • The online classes really are a game-changer! Though not all courses are available online, we appreciate that they also have online yoga for those of you who cannot attend the class directly.

What We Don't

  • The place can feel too commercialised. Although the popularity of Yoga Barn is undeniable, it can sometimes feel too crowded in a class and defy the purpose of having peaceful practice.

  • The different classes and schedules can be a little intimidating for beginners. With so many different types of yoga, meditations, and classes, this can be overwhelming for anyone who is a beginner and unfamiliar with many yoga terms and definitions ‒ although this can also be a plus point for those familiar with yoga and wellness in general.

  • The no-booking policy for the yoga class. The system means that you have to be there at least 45 minutes before class, so there's a chance you might not get into the class due to full capacity. Since they have the app, we don't understand why they don't use this as the booking system.

Expert Opinion about Yoga Barn

There shouldn't be any question about where to go in Ubud because there are many Ubud activities that you can do and explore. Going to Yoga Barn may not be on everyone's agenda, but we can assure you that it's certainly the kind of trip you'll never forget. If you're searching for a wellness, meditation, or detox retreat in Bali, Yoga Barn is the perfect place for all your needs.

The daily class schedule with different types of yoga, holistic healing, meditation, and workshops has really impressed us. However, we also have to admit that it can be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with wellness and who need some pointers. Online booking for daily classes is an addition we hope will be shortly.

Yoga Barn is the ideal place for experiencing a spiritual journey in Bali, beyond more than just meditation and healing. Saying it's the best yoga in Bali is an understatement because the Yoga Barn team are skilled in ensuring that you get to rejuvenate and know your inner self a little bit better.

Have absolutely loved every class I have taken at Yoga Barn but recently took a class with Jose Luis which was incredibly unsafe. As a yoga teacher myself you must know when to back off as an instructor and he was far from knowing that. Multiple students told him no and not to adjust and he pushed them telling them “students don’t come to yoga to not do what they are told.” Such an ignorant statement, when the point of yoga is that it is your own practice. Fun class but definitely take it from another instructor!!

I\'ve had some negative experiences with abrupt and abrasive yoga teachers which lead to years of being inactive on the yoga scene HOWEVER on my recent trip to bali I stumbled across this gem of a place namely the yoga barn so....had classes with Eka Kailash Marcus and 2 other teachers I\'m sure one was Jay and a lovely lady either Korean/Japanese anyways ...they have reignited my hunger for yoga and for that I\'m thankful, they were all relaxed but professional, really in tune too they were all 10/10 but Eka was 11/10 🙏🧘‍♀️

I don’t usually write negative reviews, but in this case I feel it’s necessary, especially for those who might be considering this class without knowing what it actually involves. I attended the Kriya Yoga session with Candice at The Yoga Barn, expecting something very different. I thought it would be a calm, introspective class focused on breathwork, light meditation, and perhaps some mudras or gentle energy work. Instead, it was a deeply uncomfortable and unsettling experience that felt chaotic and ungrounded. Right from the start, the energy in the room was off. Candice greeted us with a loud, commanding tone, telling us to drop our bags and sit down, almost like we were in a boot camp. She then locked the door and told us we wouldn\'t be allowed to leave during the session, which felt controlling and extremely unprofessional. I knew right away that I wanted to leave. What followed didn’t resemble any yoga I’ve experienced. Candice repeatedly burped loudly into the microphone throughout the session. While I understand this might be interpreted as some form of energetic release, it was never explained, acknowledged, or handled in a respectful way for the participants. It felt disturbing and jarring. At one point, she asked who didn’t want physical adjustments. I raised my hand, but this was completely ignored, she came over to me multiple times, attempting to guide or adjust me without consent. This made me feel disrespected and even more uncomfortable. Rather than feeling energized, peaceful, or centered, I felt lost, trapped, and anxious, as though I’d unknowingly stepped into a cult-like experience rather than a yoga class. I just wanted it to end. To be fair, some people may be drawn to this type of intense practice, and that\'s valid. But it\'s absolutely not a typical yoga class, and definitely not what many people would expect from something labeled “Kriya Yoga.” If you’re looking for a gentle breathwork-focused class or a traditional yogic experience, be aware: this is something entirely different. While The Yoga Barn is a beautiful space and the restaurant is lovely, this experience has made me very cautious about attending any future classes or events there. I hope this review helps others make a more informed decision.

Hi everyone! My name is Catur, and I was born and raised in Central Java. I moved to Bali in 2011 but left the island in 2016 before returning in 2018. Bali feels more than a home to me, and maybe that’s why my name feels like a premonition. Catur means four, both in the Balinese and Javanese languages. It is spoken like ‘c’ in chess, which is also the meaning of my name in Indonesian.
