Sushi Restaurants in Uluwatu

By Putri, 2024.01.17

When someone says Bali, I bet beaches, sunsets, and rice terraces come to mind. Maybe you also think of how much delicious food you can have from different types of food, thanks to the thriving culinary scene on the island.

But here’s something that you may not know: one of the most popular areas in Bali is famous for its Japanese cuisine. People are particularly in love with the sushi restaurants in the area. It shocked me at first, too! But when I thought about how Uluwatu has a long coast, having seafood as one of their specialities made sense. If you’re about everything sushi, these establishments are guaranteed to have the freshest raw seafood in the area:

1. Sushimi, Uluwatu

What do you want to order? Whether you’re in the mood for yellowtail, whitefish, or any other kind of sushi, you can just get it straight from the sushi train. Sushimi employs this exciting concept from Japan, where all these plates are moving along the conveyor belt. This is definitely one of the most interesting offerings that I’ve seen so far. The idea of getting my dish straight from a moving belt gives it a quirky factory-like feel.

But the conveyor belt itself isn’t the reason why the concept is such a success. Some of the credit definitely goes to the tremendous variety of items that you can find on their menu. Seeing that variety right in front of you is what makes it very appealing. You have the California roll, spicy tuna roll, and all the unique sushi rolls their chef has created to offer something new to the table. I love that they make use of different kinds of seafood, like squid, mackerel, octopus, and crab, so there’s something for everyone.

2. KO Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge

The KO Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge is a great dining spot if you like a place with a hip and youthful vibe. They have vibrant music and offer delicious drinks, too! Everyone (yes, including me!) loves it for its delicious food and pleasant ambience. But what I love most about this place is how it incorporates Balinese elements into the interiors while still enclosing a Japanese feel.

So, if you like authentic Japanese food that combines tradition and creative spirit, KO will knock you out of the park. But there’s a catch: this Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge is only open for dinner. I hope they change their availability because their in-restaurant gardens are too good to be kept out of daylight!

3. Shaka Riki

Shaka Riki is nothing short of outstanding. I simply can’t get enough of their authentic Japanese dishes. And because of the restaurant’s serene ambience and friendly staff, it’s easy to have a relaxed dining experience while in this place. If you like to try out different kinds of sushi, Shaka Riki is the place to be. From classic favourites like salmon and tuna rolls to inventive menu options, you’ll really have a lot to choose from. But the sushi isn’t the only reason to come here. Every dish is a winner, and you’ll be hard-pressed trying to pick your favourite.

4. Uru Ramen & Sushi Garden

Everyone loves sushi, but a little variety can’t hurt, right? As someone who’s a huge fan of Japanese cuisine, I want different kinds of food in front of me. Uru Ramen & Sushi Garden presents a variety of tastes in Japanese food, which makes it an omnipresent hit.

There’s something more about their food that makes me smile, except for the top-notch taste and fresh ingredients. Whether it’s the chicken ramen, the sushi, or any of my favourites from their menu, it’s so apparent how much effort they put into making sure the dish is nothing short of amazing. The chefs really put their heart and soul into their masterpieces.

5. Yuki, Uluwatu

If you consider yourself a Japanese food aficionado, you definitely have to give Yuki a visit. It’s making a lot of noise in the local food scene because it goes beyond the familiar dishes that most people have already tried. As a self-confessed foodie, I like that their best dishes incorporate ingredients that make them truly remarkable. For example, the tuna truffle maki roll is what, for me, is the most delightful mix of traditional and modern ingredients. There are also options for those who don’t eat meat, my personal favourite of which is the vegan teriyaki pumpkin.

But it’s not just the food that makes this place a great pick. I think your visit can never be complete without trying their selection of alcoholic beverages, which are great on their own or with the main course. And to complete the experience, the restaurant’s interior is filled with trendy decor that makes it perfect for a casual meal or a fun date night.

Expert Opinion

I have been living in Bali for ten years and spent my first five years in the Uluwatu region. The beaches in Uluwatu are undeniably beautiful; sky blue with white sand is the perfect combo for a day of chill out and swimming on the beach. When we talk about food, the Uluwatu area might not be as famous as Canggu and Seminyak but it actually has the best restaurants with the best views! Sushi is one of the most popular restaurants in Uluwatu. So, here are my best selections of sushi restaurants.

Sushimi, Shaka Riki, Yuki

The reasons why these make up my best sushi restaurants in Uluwatu is because of the authenticity and the quality of sushi. The vibes, views, service, and cleanliness add to the value of the sushi experience. If Uluwatu is one of your Bali holiday destinations, then eating at a Sushi restaurant is worth trying! Enjoy Uluwatu, Bali.
