We visited Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan to experience true luxury, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The resort’s stunning location, nestled along the Ayung River with views of the Sayan Hills, makes it a standout. With 18 suites and 42 pool villas, it’s the ultimate in privacy and exclusivity.

The real draw here? The focus on wellness and tranquility. It’s no wonder celebrities like Julia Roberts and Barack Obama have stayed. Whether you're relaxing by the pool or soaking in the lush surroundings of Ubud’s rice paddies and rainforest, this resort offers the perfect escape.

The Facilities

This resort has the most complete facilities you can think of. They provide a weekly schedule of things to do in the room, some of which are complementary. Plus, you will still have plenty to experience even just by staying at the resort!

Swimming pool

The two-tiered infinity swimming pool creates a unique view and you can sometimes see people taking part in white rafting passing by. Although the villa type includes a private swimming pool, you can also see many lounges just to socialise in.

Restaurant and Bar

There are two restaurants and a bar here, each one offering a different cuisine and setting. The Ayung Terrace is where you get your breakfast and, at night, it has an Indonesian menu. The Riverside Restaurant is where the Mediterranean cuisine shines, incorporating menus from Italy, Spain, Greece, France, and Lebanon. Jati Bar is where you can sip your favourite drinks in the late afternoon on the teakwood lounge.

The Sacred River Spa is the right place to unwind and truly rejuvenate. There is also a bamboo yoga studio that will certainly attract anyone interested in antigravity or Chakra Yoga. The fitness centre is close to the spa, with three individual Jacuzzis in which you can relax afterward.

What We Like and What We Don’t

What We Like

  • The architecture and design. John Heah’s design showcases Bali’s unique landscape, especially the rice bowl shape and the infinity pool that follows the contour of the Ayung River.

  • The service. The extraordinary service knows your name even before you check-in.

  • The complementary activities and snacks. Yoga, cycling around the rice fields, and the free shuttle bus to Ubud’s centre elevate the experience of staying here.

  • The exceptional dining. Each item on the menu will spoil your taste buds. They can also arrange cooking classes, a Chef's Table with seven-course dinner menus, and even a romantic culinary experience!

  • The spacious room. What surprises us is that it is incredibly spacious! It has high-quality amenities, indoor and outdoor showers, a living room, and a gazebo.

What We Don’t

  • Staircases. The resort’s stairs can be challenging for the elderly and slippery during the rainy season.

  • The swimming area. We can only imagine how full it is during the peak season. Though guests with private pools at the Pool Villas often choose to use their own, the number of guests in the Suites tend to swim here.

  • The kids. Although there is a kids’ zone, kids are allowed anywhere on the property, making them prone to be loud and hyperactive.

We love Bali and we’ve enjoyed our stays at Bulgari, Alila, Como etc. But nothing comes close to the hospitality demonstrated by Four Seasons. They went above and beyond for our honeymoon, and as I write this review we are on our way there one year later. The staff are incredible and the architecture is a divine blend of contemporary and local craftsmanship. Looking out over the rice fields feels surreal. And we can highly recommend the rafting experience which drops you off at their poolside bar. Nothing like a cold beer after a morning on the rapids!

Expert Opinion About Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has earned accolades as one of the World’s Top Hotels by Travel+Leisure in 2018 and Condé Nast Traveller’s Choice Awards in 2022. These recognitions highlight its commitment to luxury for more than two decades.

The service is impeccable and the interiors are well-maintained. We would, however, appreciate the kids-free zone area being enclosed to give us that exclusivity vibe. Nevertheless, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is still a solid choice for a romantic getaway or a peaceful escape from the city.

Hi everyone! My name is Catur, and I was born and raised in Central Java. I moved to Bali in 2011 but left the island in 2016 before returning in 2018. Bali feels more than a home to me, and maybe that’s why my name feels like a premonition. Catur means four, both in the Balinese and Javanese languages. It is spoken like ‘c’ in chess, which is also the meaning of my name in Indonesian.
