By Putri, 2024.01.22

No matter what country you’re from, there’s one thing that will always be true: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, if you want to get the day started with the right vibe, make sure you have something filling to eat. When I don’t feel like making something at home, my favourite thing to do is head out to a breakfast cafe. Luckily, Sanur has many of them! Grabbing a bite to eat in a cosy cafe is popular with anyone and everyone on the island because it helps them relax. After all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy their eggs Benedict while enjoying ocean views from Sanur Beach? The laid-back atmosphere plus good food are very appealing to me!

With the picturesque sunrise and amazing breakfast flavours, it’s easy to see why everyone loves breakfast cafes. Check out these breakfast spots and fall in love with this experience yourself.

1. Byrd House

Are you looking for a relaxing atmosphere that everyone in the family will enjoy? Then, the Byrd House along Segara Beach will be a great addition to your Balinese culinary experience. I like that there’s a huge variety of homemade pastries and coffees that will satisfy the taste of both adults and children. After all, I love sharing a meal with family. So, I like the idea of everyone having plenty of fun for the entire time. Apart from bread, they also have eggs, juice, and other breakfast staples, which you can enjoy as you take in their lovely and peaceful Mediterranean-inspired interior. After you’ve stopped by for breakfast or brunch, the fun doesn’t have to end. You can beat the tropical heat by taking a dip in the pool. Meanwhile, kids can keep themselves busy by heading to the playground or tree house.

Enjoy delectable Italian dishes crafted with the finest local ingredients at lunch and dinner. Then, stop by the bar and try the unique Hello Sunset cocktails crafted by a skilled mixologist. Also, staying updated on their social media might be a good idea as the Byrd House is set to expand with several wellness centres!

2. The Glass House

The Glass House is definitely appropriately named based on how it looks. It uses glass for the walls and ceilings, which creates a very open space that lets people enjoy the serene ambience of Sanur. But even though you can get the full view of nature from inside, you can also enjoy your breakfast outside to feel the fresh air. I feel like a lot of breakfast cafes rely too much on groups who get up early in the morning. But as I know first-hand, cravings can come at any time! That’s why I love that they have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu filled with beloved Australian dishes.

For guests who like being pleasantly surprised with various breakfast favourites, the scrumptious coffees and cakes available change every day. Even though they don’t say it outright, I suspect that this is because they get fresh ingredients from the Bedugul markets daily. And because some items are seasonal, they can’t serve certain dishes all year long.

But no matter the time of year, I’ve personally seen (and, more importantly, tasted) how they make sure to maintain the high level of quality that they are known for. My personal favourites? The halloumi wraps and the Vietnamese chicken salad. But if you prefer seafood, they have a sumptuous seafood platter for two. And to end the meal, I prefer the tropical fruit pavlova parfait. Just make sure to book your table in advance so you can enjoy all the goodness that this spot has to offer.

3. Bread Basket

For your bread and pastry cravings, Bread Basket is the obvious choice. I know that my taste buds can go wild at any moment, so I’m glad that, here, there is a wide range of choices, including sourdough bread, crepes, bagels, pretzels, croissants, and Danish pastries. Night owls also don’t have to miss anything because their all-day breakfasts are ready for you any time you want.

Are you feeling a little down and in need of comfort food? Their traditional mince and chicken pies are a must-try. I just make sure to go as early as possible when I want some because these run out fast.

Of course, no breakfast café will ever be complete without coffee! Bread Basket has a list of them that will give you that boost in energy that you need. If you’re looking for something simple, there’s the trusty black coffee. But if you prefer something that you won’t see anywhere else, go for the creamy egg espresso.

4. Sala Bistro

As an early bird who prefers a heavy meal for breakfast, I can’t say enough great things about Sala Bistro. They haven’t been in the area for a long time, but they’re already one of the hottest breakfast spots in town.

But what is it about this restaurant that locals and tourists can’t get enough of? Sala Bistro provides an experience that other Sanur breakfast restaurants cannot. This restaurant has two storeys so it’s spacious enough for big groups. Still, it doesn’t lose its charm as a charming and cosy spot for a quiet breakfast. We have its warm and inviting atmosphere and decor to thank for that! But whether I’m flying solo or dining with a group of friends, I’ll never get enough of the aromas from the kitchen. There are so many tasty meals on their menu that you won’t be able to decide on just one dish.

If you’re a coffee lover, you can’t go without trying something from their menu that’s made using Seniman Coffee – a renowned local coffee roaster. The place both offers classic lattes and specialty brews that will satisfy the foodie in you.

I know I’m supposed to be all about breakfast for this post. But if you have the time, come by before dinner, too. The rooftop of this breakfast spot has the most stunning views of the Sanur sunset. While watching, you can also grab juices and cocktails from the bar. If you ask me, it’s the perfect way to end the day of adventures.

5. Soul on the Beach

Imagine what an Instagram-worthy pic of a family enjoying breakfast by the Beach looks like. That’s what Soul on the Beach gives you. The place is surrounded by white sands, the perfect spot for families looking to enjoy a delicious meal while their kids run and play nearby. As the little sister of Shotgun Social, this restaurant offers a casual and relaxed dining atmosphere that is sure to make you feel right at home.

One of the highlights of Soul on the Beach is its creative and healthy menu. With dishes that change often, you can always expect something new and exciting to try. And the best part? These dishes pair perfectly with the restaurant’s selection of wines, making it a great place to unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal.

Expert Opinion

I have been living in Bali for ten years, and for me, Sanur is one of the best places to visit on weekends. This is especially true for foodies! Sanur has numerous good options for beautiful breakfast spots. So here are my best selections of breakfast cafés in Sanur Bali:

Byrd House, Bread Basket, and Soul on the Beach

The reason these make up my best selections is because of the meal options for breakfast, the coffee, the ambience, the vibes, and the environment. The laid-back atmosphere and the beautiful beaches in Sanur make breakfast time even more enjoyable. Not to mention the excellent service of the staff! The overall experience is a wonderful culinary journey.

If Sanur is one of your holiday destinations in Bali, then experiencing the café breakfasts available should be part of it!
