Potato Head Beach Club is possibly one of the most iconic beach clubs in Bali, which is attributed to the relaxed and super-casual ambience at Potato Head and the stunning Indian Ocean views. A design featuring thousands of reclaimed antique shutters and windows is what strikes us the most about Potato Head's building, showing they cared about sustainability even before it became a trend.

The establishment of Potato Head is what makes this more than just a beach club for witnessing the sunset or attending a music/party event. Potato Head is an ecosystem consisting of: Potato Head Studios, a hotel that has been awarded as one of The World's 50 Best Hotels in 2023; several restaurants and bars; an amphitheatre, a wellness centre, and an art gallery, all in one place.

Although Potato Head has no dress code, this doesn’t mean you cannot dress up to the nines! We also learned that it’s one of the selected few places where pets are allowed. These minuscule details add to the reasons why this beach club in Seminyak is always full of people and has always been the benchmark of beach clubs in Bali.

Our Experience at Potato Head Beach Club, Bali

As one of the pioneers of the beach clubs in Seminyak and Bali, we knew in advance that our experience at Potato Head Beach Club would be one to capture for your benefit. Although it wasn't our first visit, Potato Head Beach Club maintained our expectations and gave us a similar great service as before.

Facilities at Potato Head Beach Club, Bali

Potato Head Beach Club, Bali may only have one outdoor swimming pool, but the infinity pool was never packed with people when we were there. Most people chose to sit on their daybeds or went to swim on the beach.

As we mentioned earlier, there is also the Potato Head Studio. If you wish to stay inside the Desa Potato Head ecosystem, we've heard many great things about being there. It is also home to some of the best restaurants in Bali, with six dining options: Kaum Restaurant, Dome Restaurant, Tanaman Restaurant, Beachfront Restaurant, Pizza Garden, and Ijen Restaurant.

If you're looking for a bar to drink at, Desa Potato Head has Akademi, which is an open-air cocktail bar, and Sunset Park, a rooftop bar facing the glorious Indian Ocean.

Food and Drinks Bars at Potato Head Beach Club, Bali

If there is one thing we wish we could have done during our visit to Potato Head Beach Club, it is try all the restaurants there. Alas, we only got to try the menus from Ijen and Pizza Garden, but we will definitely return for the others!

Our Recommendations from the Menu

Here are some recommendations for you and the ones that we enjoyed the most at Potato Head Beach Club.

The selection of food in Potato Head Beach Club

🍽 Prawns (IDR 235K)

The best thing about Ijen is that all the seafood is fresh and without any complicated seasoning, so the prawns with shellfish mayonnaise and citrus are all that you need.

🍽 Oysters (IDR 175K for 6 pcs)

Ginger, vinegar, and tamari are the perfect blend to accompany the fresh oysters at Potato Head Beach Club.

🍽 Pepperoni Pizza (IDR 165K)

With only Balinese beef pepperoni, homemade tomato sauce, and fresh mozzarella, this was one of the most delicious pizzas we've ever had!

Our Recommendations from the Bar

The cocktails at Potato Head Beach are certainly to be reckoned with, and we finally understand why!

The selection of drinks in Potato Head Beach Club

🍸 Kookaburra (IDR 145K)

Lemongrass gin and syrup mixed with fresh mint and citrus result in this extremely fresh drink for the hottest day in Bali.

🍸 Barong Zombie (IDR 145K)

Pineapple arak with island spiced rum, cane juice, tangerine, and jackfruit made us understand why this is one of Potato Head Beach Club's signature cocktails.

🍸Flores Margarita (IDR 135K)

Pink lovers, gather up! The combination of tequila, rosella arak and syrup, pink citrus, and citrus juice combine to create this pink drink, perfect for sunset cocktails in Bali.

What We Like and What We Don't Like About Potato Head Beach Club, Bali

There is a good reason why Potato Head Beach Club remains popular even when new beach clubs are popping up across Bali. But we also found a few aspects that made our overall experience a bit less spectacular.

Bar and barman within the pool of Potato Head Beach Club

What We Like

  • The options for dining are remarkable. We really love the concept of having different restaurants for different purposes, as we can have Indonesian food at Kaum and enjoy the seafood at Ijen. Those at Potato Head are some of the most exquisite!

  • The pets policy. Though we didn't see any pets when we were there, knowing that they allow pets to go inside the beach club is something we definitely appreciate.

  • The kids' splash pool is thoughtful! In a place where kids are often overlooked, having a kids' pool is another reason why this Seminyak Beach Club remains popular.

  • The design and the location are breathtaking. The reclaimed shutters and windows and the overall design of Potato Head are full of characters, and everything is thoroughly curated.

  • Desa Potato Head should be the standard everywhere in Bali. With the hotel, restaurants, bars, and beach club, we hope that this kind of ecosystem can be applied to most Bali beach clubs.

What We Don't Like

  • The open area means there is no dedicated space for smokers. It was hard to ignore the smoke after a while since many people were smoking, and this was the first thing that we didn't like about Potato Head Beach Club.

  • The service could have been better. There were a few instances where they repeated the same information, as if we didn't hear it the first time around. Maybe this was because the place was packed, but the service could have been better.

  • Though it is advertised that walk-ins are welcome, in reality, you still have to book in advance to get a seat. We witnessed some people feeling disappointed as they couldn't get a seat because the place was full, so we advise for you to book in advance.

Expert Opinion about Potato Head Beach Club, Bali

An ecosystem like Desa Potato Head is exactly what differentiates Potato Head Beach Club from other beach clubs in Bali. This is more than just a where to dance or party in Bali place, even though we couldn't help but bop along to the beat played by the resident DJ.

Although we weren't overly impressed by the service (and we clearly weren't the only ones agreeing on this issue) and the smokes can be annoying, we still highly recommend Potato Head Beach Club to visit if you happen to be in the Seminyak area. Our advice is to book in advance to secure a seat or arrive during the day to avoid the crowd.

Even after a decade, Potato Head Beach Club has remained a pioneer in the beach club scene in Bali and is among visitors' key things to do in Seminyak. Its commitment to sustainability and consistent delivery of quality are the real foundations of Potato Head Beach Club, which maintains its status as one of the best beach clubs in Bali.

One of the best beach clubs in Bali imo. No minimum spend for the bar. We just wanted to have a drink then use the pool for a couple hours so was great. Defo going back here.

Hi everyone! My name is Catur, and I was born and raised in Central Java. I moved to Bali in 2011 but left the island in 2016 before returning in 2018. Bali feels more than a home to me, and maybe that’s why my name feels like a premonition. Catur means four, both in the Balinese and Javanese languages. It is spoken like ‘c’ in chess, which is also the meaning of my name in Indonesian.
