By Putri, 2023.12.04

Beauty, spirituality, and art. Those are the things that make Ubud my special corner in heaven. And for everyone else looking for serenity, this town is a great getaway. Even with my choice of modest accommodation, I’ve had the best time here. But let’s face it. Having access to that five-star pampering will make things even better during your trip.

Many travellers are willing to pay steeper prices for the best facilities, amenities, and locations. If you want to enjoy the finer things in life, here are the best five-star properties in Ubud.

1. Four Season Sayan Ubud

Experience truly luxurious accommodation in the heart of Ubud, which is a stunning town enveloped by a mystical jungle, while staying at Four Seasons. Take a break from the usual routine and enjoy being treated like royalty with fancy facilities and top-notch assistance.

To get to the property, you walk over a hanging bridge before the resort itself, which is located in a beautiful secluded area surrounded by the Ayung River Valley, making you feel more connected to the natural world.

What I like about the place is that it allows some flexibility in your budget. You can choose from their many rooms with a balcony and houses with a small private lush garden or a terrace, so you can just pick one within the price range you’re comfortable paying. My pick is the one-bedroom villa if I want a good view of the rice fields. But if I want more space for a bigger group, the two-bedroom counterpart has its own private pool and a quiet place for meditation.

2. Uma Kalai Ubud

Uma Kalai is an excellent destination for those seeking relaxation and natural tranquillity. One of the best resorts in Bali is situated in the quaint village sanctuary of Sayan near Ubud’s cultural hub. This place welcomes you to feel the blend of traditional Balinese culture, modern comforts, and excellent service. Experience beautiful scenery, relax and improve your well-being with health treatments, and explore the fantastic natural attractions of Bali with guided activities, always walking distance from a great deal of delicious local food.

The interior design of Uma Kalai’s suites and luxe villas Bali showcases the history and culture of the island through traditional furnishings while also offering guests modern luxuries and all the comforts of their own homes.

And if you like gourmet cuisine delivered straight to your villa, their staff can also make that happen. Their menu features both local and fine international dishes, so your tastebuds can take trips around the world. But if you want something their restaurants don’t have, their English-speaking staff can also make something just for you.

3. Chapung Sebali

Chapung Sebali is one of my go-to boutique resorts when I want to feel like I’m in the middle of nowhere (with a fantastic landscape, however). I like doing yoga to help me feel centred. And the peace you get from a session here is nothing close to what you’d get with accommodation more comparable to the big city. Personally, I use the jungle as my natural sound machine. Of course, it’s not the only thing that being off the map is good for. You can also try out many physical activities like trekking, horseback riding, and cycling. But for visitors who would rather relax in the hotel, you can enjoy the infinity pool view surrounded by greenery. Or, you can find a comfy chair to bathe in the sun and drive all your stress away. Once you have energy, I recommend going to the town centre to visit local shops and get the wholesome Ubud experience.

After that, rest in one of their bedrooms and be surrounded by Indonesian and Scandinavian architecture. My personal recommendation? Head to the pool bar and have a few cocktails.

4. Viceroy Ubud

Sophisticated and lavish… that’s the best way to describe Ubud’s Viceroy Bali. Composed of 25 villas, each with a private pool, it’s one of the places that make a great retreat for couples on a honeymoon or families with small children. My favourite part about this place is the view. Even from my bed, I can see the nearby valley because of the large windows. But from what I can see, the details are essential to them. Maybe that’s why even the doors are incredibly detailed, perfect for your next Instagram post.

This paradise just gets more beautiful as you observe the littlest things about it. For example, the balusters for the railing and straw for the roof give an enchanted forest feel to the grounds. Meanwhile, surrounding the swimming pools are tall palm trees that give people shade under the tropical atmosphere.

There’s just an X factor to the resort. Everything made sense when I learned that an Indonesian family owns the hotel. The hospitality of the staff members is better than what I’ve experienced in bigger hotel chains. They really want to create the comfort of feeling at home. And for me, that authentic quality service is something money can’t buy. The price per night here is also very affordable for a five-star hotel. So, check the availability of their villas once you’ve secured your travel dates.

5. The Stonehouse

Experience tranquillity, elegance, and replenishment at the sophisticated Stonehouse Bali, and indulge in traditional Balinese customs infused with a modern touch. Enjoy relaxing massages at home or choose from a variety of delicious dining experiences. Plus, breakfast is free in every room. Unwind by the shiny swimming pool surrounded by trees, explore their natural vegetable gardens, or have a drink in the cosy Great Room during the evening.

Choose one of the four special villas, each with different aspects of Bali’s nature, like the beautiful jungles, green rice fields, organic vegetable farms, and traditional Balinese-style architecture, including temple-like buildings. Just ten minutes away from the centre of Ubud, Stonehouse Bali is a perfect place for you to escape from your normal daily life. Experience a relaxing and luxurious stay with a hint of excitement at Stonehouse, located in the artistic centre of the island.

Expert opinion

I have been living in Bali, Indonesia for ten years. In my first five years, I lived in Jimbaran, south of Bali. After the pandemic, I decided to move to Canggu, which is the busiest area in Bali. Living in Canggu in a hectic daily environment was not easy as I love to be surrounded by nature, hence, spending a weekend or two outside Canggu is always the best way, and Ubud is one of the best destinations.

So, here are my best selections of 5-star hotels in Bali:

Four Seasons Ubud Sayan, Uma Kalai, Chapung Sebali

The reasons why I choose these as my best selections is the experience and facilities they offer! Not to mention their excellent service and the best natural scenery, interiors, and surroundings! The buffet breakfasts have a wide variety of options that really spoil your taste buds!

So, whether you come to Bali for a luxury experience or are an expat living in Bali, 5-star hotels in Ubud will give you the best value for a holiday and experience! Enjoy Ubud Bali!
