As a cultural hub in Bali, it’s easy to forget that this hot spot is more than a great place to experience wellness. Yoga studios and rice terraces may be the first thing you think of when people mention Ubud. But did you know this Balinese town also has a good nightclub or two?

1. Dumbo

I don’t know about you, but it was hard for me to eat meat after watching Dumbo. So, maybe this is why the place is vegan and vegetarian-friendly. It’s hard to find restaurants and bars that cater to this niche market. Hence, locals, tourists, and expats all come here for meals and drinks made with ethically sourced produce.

They have a large selection of drinks that use local ingredients from the area of Ubud for their cocktails, which have exciting names from the world’s best albums, like Sgt Peppers (named after The Beatles) and Let It Bleed (named after The Rolling Stones).

One could easily claim that Dumbo is the most incredible bar in Ubud. It’s the place to be if you want delicious cocktails made with care and tasty food made with ingredients that are good for the environment. The food is cooked right in front of you in the open kitchen.

Be prepared to relish Brooklyn-style pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven and indulge in uniquely crafted cocktails utilising homemade ingredients. Some of these cocktails will even be prepared right at your table. Plus, make sure to stay until late because Dumbo has its vinyl collection. Also, if you arrive as part of a group, Dumbo offers great private party packages.

2. Bacari Bar

Bacari stands because of the Coravin Wine preservation system, which made them the first to offer wines by the glass. As an accompaniment to your Bordeaux Blanc or Barolo, they have thoughtfully crafted a menu featuring small dishes that harmonise perfectly with each respective wine. Imagine a delicious olive spread made right at home, delicious cured meats, and, of course, a variety of locally-produced aged cheeses as well. Believe us when we tell you the grilled halloumi cheese is so good that it’s worth making a trip to Ubud just for this alone. Before you go, try the cocktails, too. High-grade spirits are used to create these drinks, and the Negroni, notably, is superb!

3. No Mas Bar

“No más” means “no more” in Spanish, but I’m always going to say yes to this cool bar. If you like strong drinks, a chill atmosphere, and great music, No Mas Bar should be on your list.

What I love about the bar is how it incorporates the taste of local fruits and spices. You’ll definitely have a lot of time enjoying their live music as their happy hours go on for days at a time.

4. Room 4Dessert

Celebrity chef Will Goldfarb, who became famous after appearing on Netflix’s Chef’s Table, has opened Room4Dessert. This is a dessert bar that offers terrific sweets and tasty cocktails.

If you are lucky enough to get a table, you should definitely try their dessert-tasting menu, along with their cocktail experience. Almost all the cocktails are created to enhance and complement the desserts’ enjoyment.

If you want something unique and off-road (but great anyway), go to Room4Dessert for amazing sweets and drinks in a crazy late-night location. Once inside, you can gladden your tastebuds with a fancy meal of unique and genuinely delicious desserts that go well with strong or delicate cocktails served by skilled bartenders. You can also go outside to the garden to enjoy the perfect ambiance and have small Spanish snacks, desserts, and bite-sized treats. Yes, this place has fantastic drinks and delicious food that is considered among the best on the island. The drinks here are quality, and it’s a great place to go for a drink after dinner.

5. Night Roosters

Why not come over and relax at this hidden gem of a bar situated on Jl Goutama? Treat yourself to some truly exquisite cocktails that are sure to leave you craving for more. Raka, the resident alchemist, makes incredible drinks here, while the bar and lounge area have a relaxed and chilled vibe for enjoying a cosy drink and a nightcap.

As we know, many people go to Ubud for the cultural experience. That’s why I love that the local culture is part of the experience here. The drinks are not only delicious but also inspired by Indonesian folklore. Using local ingredients, their cocktails are very creative and include homemade fortified wines, bitters, and infused liquors. Their imaginative take on infusions is probably why it’s one of Asia’s 50 best bars.
