7 Things to Do (And See) In Canggu
Dine in Canggu’s Hotspots
Where should I start when talking about cafes and restaurants? The first thing you need to do is make a list of all the delicious food you’re going to eat in Canggu. Because having a smoothie bowl and avo toast for breakfast is a must, while sitting by the beachside cafe and enjoying your burrito should be the standard brunch menu. As for dinner, choose your battle between the authentic Italian pizza to smoky barbeque or the bold Mediterranean & Middle-Eastern flavor.

What about the price range? Don’t worry, they won’t dig the hole in your pocket. Let’s say, you have dinner for two with wine in any of the best restaurants in Canggu, expect to pay more or less US$ 50. The diverse food scene in Canggu means you can splurge or save, your choice!
Experience Electric Nightlife and Party Scene
Do you know the reason why the nightlife is always on the top of things to do in Canggu? Because the party knows no break! Between the tequila shots and Latin beats, and the spectacular disco lights, Canggu brings you to the beach as the dance floor (I’m not kidding!). Just head to Batu Bolong after midnight, and you’ll see the crowd filling the beach!

Whatever your vibe is, Canggu’s nightlife scene is all about energy. And there’s no shortage of variety of music, either. Techno, house, disco, latin, or timeless R&B, Canggu knows how to flick your party mood. So, dress to the nines, check the party schedule in Canggu (which happens almost every day, by the way), and let me say, you haven’t been to Canggu if partying is not part of your things to do list.
Wander Canggu’s Sunday Markets
What’s the best thing to do in Canggu on Sunday? Going to the Sunday market, of course! Whatever you’re looking for, fresh tomatoes or Mexican dishes, the Sunday market is the place to go. Almost all the veggies and fruits sold at Sunday markets are also organic and sustainably sourced, so you’re helping local farmers as well! But if browsing for clothes, jewelry, or handcrafted goods is more your thing, I can guarantee you’ll be spending the whole day at the Sunday markets.

Save your bargaining skills for shopping in Bali somewhere else as most prices at the Sunday market are fixed. Always bring enough cash, though, as not every stall accepts cards. The Sunday markets in Canggu open from 9 AM to 4 PM, but I suggest you come early because the lunch time can be packed!
Visit Tanah Lot Temple
There are thousands of temples in Bali, but none match the magic and beauty of Tanah Lot. This attraction may require you to drive about 30 minutes from Canggu center, but what you’re going to see is a sea temple dedicated to Baruna, the God of the Sea. The temple was built in the 16th century and sits on a rock, in the middle of the ocean. Though you can see it from afar, I suggest you walk very close to the temple if the tide is low.

Another thing about Tanah Lot Temple is the legendary banded sea kraits. The Balinese believe that the black-and-white striped sea snakes at Tanah Lot are guarding the temple from evil spirits. The entrance fee to Tanah Lot is IDR 75K (approximately US$ 5) and please come in the morning to defy the crowd, even though the sunset time is glorious.
Surfing in Canggu
You can’t talk about surfing in Bali without bringing Canggu to the conversation. Long before it became the ‘it’ place in Bali, what to do in Canggu was basically … surfing. Canggu fills the gap as the sweet spot for surfers. Experienced and intermediate surfers will have fun with the hollow reef breaks at Echo Beach, while the mellow waves at Berawa and Batu Bolong have become the playground for novice surfers and longboarders.

But the multiple and continuous breaks mean there are spaces for everyone. With so many places to go in Canggu, from cafes and co-working spaces to gyms, it becomes a perfect destination to look for a more rounded experience in Bali beyond surfing.
