If you've already been to Locavore and still have an image of its unique flavors and concept, you definitely need to try the “next level” version: Locavore NXT in Lodtunduh, Ubud. The place is a little bit hidden, but once you enter, the vibe is awesome — calm, earthy, and you really feel that this is no ordinary restaurant. They literally have their own food lab, mini garden, and even a fermentation room to make super creative ingredients. Everything they serve is the result of their own research, and it's all authentically local, but with a great modern twist.

Our experts experience from Locavore NXT

Reservation

It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance through their official website at locavorenxt.com or via WhatsApp. Given the limited capacity and high demand (especially on weekends), booking in advance is a wise choice. The whole process is easy and quick, too!

Parking

There is sufficient parking available on-site, including a convenient drop-off area. You can come with your own vehicle without worrying about parking issues.

Service

One thing that immediately strikes us from the moment we walk into Locavore NXT is how the staff treats guests like old friends returning for a visit. The service team has an in-depth knowledge of every element on the menu, even down to the origin of the ingredients and cooking techniques. They not only deliver the food to the table, but also tell stories, engage in casual conversation, and make the dining experience more memorable.

Why Do We Choose Locavore NXT

We love that Locavore NXT is a playground for super creative people who are passionate about local ingredients. We like the fact that they don't just make good food, but really explore it — fermenting it themselves, harvesting it themselves, and creating menus from things that we wouldn't expect to become fine dining dishes. You can also experience something that you won't find anywhere else (like chili sauce made from young moth leaves or ice cream made from fermented mushrooms). Sounds weird, we agree. But when you try it, it's mind-blowing!

Outstanding facility, location, and extremely attentive staff. Service was almost faultless. The overall experience was amazing, one of the best we have ever had. The only minor criticism was that the dishes became a little rich as the evening went on. The depth of flavours, the richness of the sauces, while amazing became harder to eat 8-9 courses in. This is a very minor personal criticism however and I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic special occasion.

Beyond an exceptional and memorable meal, my visit to Locavore NXT was an all round remarkable experience. Every team member I encountered was so friendly and welcoming (except Gary the tri-paw cat, he was sleeping on the job). The space was meticulously considered with a new marvel around every corner. Each dish was an artwork in itself and I enjoyed most of them immensely. In our last half hour I was presented with the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted. I will certainly recommend this experience to anyone visiting ubud, absolutely worth the time and money.

The NXT experience was really cool! The concept, location and architecture design was beautiful and the staff went above and beyond and were so cute and lovely. It was really amazing to watch the chefs cook, we asked them lots of questions which they were happy to answer. The food had many interesting flavours and it definitely took you on a journey. I love seeing restaurants showcasing plant foods and what you can create with them. My sister and I are both vegan and gluten free, and they accommodated our requests accordingly. We usually don’t cook with oil and try to avoid oil in our food ourselves, so some dishes felt quite heavy on the oil. I would highly recommend this experience if you’re travelling to bali, Ubud. It was worth the price and was a really beautiful evening! Thanks again to all the staff at NXT :)

I’ve been lucky enough to eat in some wonderful restaurants over the years. Very few have stayed with me the way Locavore NXT has. Our experience started long before the first bite. Driving through what felt like the Balinese jungle, we arrived at an extraordinary building that somehow manages to be both futuristic and perfectly at home in its surroundings. We were welcomed with genuine warmth, and within minutes it became clear that every detail mattered. My partner felt a little cold, and before she even had the chance to ask, someone appeared with a blanket. A small gesture that perfectly captured the hospitality we experienced throughout the evening. The first stop was the bar and fermentation lab. Surrounded by jars of kombucha, ginger beer and countless other ferments, we knew we were in for something special. Our evening began with a Negroni—our favourite cocktail—but reimagined with house-made arak and an amaro crafted from ingredients that would otherwise become waste. That single drink set the tone: sustainability here isn’t a slogan. It’s the source of creativity. The first dish, built around several varieties of melon, house-made feta and countless other components, was absolutely beautiful. Then came the first bite. The flavours unfolded one after another before coming together perfectly. And then there was the vinaigrette. If Locavore NXT ever decides to bottle it, please let me know. I’ll happily check in an extra suitcase. From there the evening became a journey. Into the basement, quite literally to the roots, where playful snacks celebrated forgotten ingredients. Then into the spectacular open kitchen, where watching dozens of people work together felt strangely calming. Like an ant colony. Or, being Swiss, like watching the inside of a mechanical watch. What impressed me almost as much as the food was the people. Every single member of the team genuinely seemed to believe in what they were doing. It never felt like anyone was simply doing a job. It felt as if everyone was proud to be part of something bigger. That enthusiasm is infectious. Every room made us curious about the next one. Every drink made us curious about the next course. Every course made us wonder what on earth they would think of next. Locavore NXT’s vegetarian interpretation of Babi Guling perfectly captured its philosophy: respecting tradition while daring to completely rethink it. Even after several hours, every course still managed to surprise us—not because it tried to shock, but because every flavour felt thoughtful, purposeful and beautifully composed. As if the evening hadn’t already given us enough, the team surprised us with Champagne and a card signed by everyone to celebrate our anniversary. We finished with chocolate instead of coffee—a first for us, and somehow the perfect ending. Before leaving, we couldn’t resist taking a piece of the experience home with us. We left the store with miso, garum and a few other treasures. Somehow it felt less like buying souvenirs and more like bringing home a little reminder of an unforgettable evening. Locavore NXT isn’t simply serving dinner. It’s quietly making an argument for what the future of food could look like. One where creativity is more important than luxury. One where sustainability creates better flavours rather than limiting them. One where local ingredients are celebrated instead of overlooked. If Netflix is looking for another Chef’s Table story, stop looking. They have one right here. Long after the final course, we realised something: we hadn’t just enjoyed one of the best meals of our lives. We’d experienced something that would stay with us long after the flavours had faded.
