New Restaurants in Bali

By Putri, 2023.12.04

Bali is a tropical paradise known for its stunning beaches and rich cultural heritage. But for travellers who want to visit this Indonesian treasure soon, there’s another thing to look forward to. A fantastic dining experience!

Bali has recently added a diverse range of restaurants to its culinary landscape. This vibrant island now has something for everyone, from trendy fusion eateries to traditional Warungs. So, whether you’re a food enthusiast or simply looking for a few spots for lunch or dinner, here are Bali’s newest restaurants. I recommend that you check out every new food destination on this list.

Stylish interior and bar counter in the new restaurant in Bali

1. Yuki Uluwatu

Because of popular demand, Yuki from Canggu decided to bring their own special favours of Japanese cuisine to the Bukit area. Yuki is a modern version of a traditional izakaya. This new Balinese restaurant serves simple and innovative dishes inspired by two things: traditional cooking techniques and recipes from Japan, plus the abundance of ingredients found in Bali. And yes, all your favourite dishes from Canggu are in this branch. My personal top pick in this restaurant is the nori ahi tacos with a hint of watermelon ponzu sauce. If you’re looking for something light and healthy, I recommend tuna truffle sushi rolls and vegan oyster mushroom skewers.

But before you leave your table, remember to try Yuki’s special Japanese cocktails. If you like a drink with some spices, you will like Off To Tokyo, with the surprise kick of wasabi and some furikake on top. I like my cocktail to have more depth in the flavours so I can enjoy every sip. If you’re like me, try the tangy Yukies2.0 before leaving the establishment. It is made with gin, calamari, goji berry, banana, lime, and yuzu. It’s incredible with any of their mains or on its own.

2. Sayulita Restaurant

If you want to see what the world beyond Asian cuisine looks like, make sure to lock in your reservation at Sayulita. This is a restaurant in Bali that pays homage to the lively Mexican culture and cuisine. It has traditional Mexican dishes and colourful, festive decorations for its interiors. Enjoy delicious homemade tacos, tapas-style nachos, creamy guacamole, and flavoursome coconut-y ceviche made with the freshest organic ingredients and produce.

Everyone has their own go-to meal when they visit this restaurant. So, feel free to order anything from the menu until you find yours! Mine is definitely fish tacos. But if you’re a vegetarian, their kitchen staff can also prepare garlic mushroom tacos for you. For cocktails, tequila and mezcal are both great mixes. And before you part with this place, try out their sweets as well. If you’re still going to hit a few places before heading back, consider getting delicious churros for takeout. These are fried until they become a golden colour and then coated with sugar. If you’re looking for something to warm you up, you can push it down with hot coffee.

3. Gajah Putih Restaurant

If you’re looking for a unique date night, I can’t recommend Gajah Putih in Ubudh enough. More than the actual flavour that results from each bite, the reason people go here is the entertainment. And no, I’m not talking about the music and dancing you’ll find in many bars. What the chefs offer here is artwork. In this restaurant, you can have excellent food plus performances that make you feel like you’re eating A5 wagyu beef. Apart from delicious bites out of your meal, you’re also getting live performances. This exciting combination breathes new life into the Castro theatre concept.

Like me during my first time, you probably have many questions about how this dining experience with a twist is different. So, to get you to a simple start, try the chef’s special set menu that features his many years of experience. Each dish is carefully made with the best ingredients from local sources; while you enjoy each delicious meal, you can see a magical show happening right in front of your table. As a food companion, they also have a special menu of signature cocktails. This was a very memorable event, especially if you had a special occasion for you and your loved ones.

4. Lulu Bistrot

As soon as you walk into Lulu Bistrot, you are whisked away with the feeling of being in the City of Paris. There is soft live jazz music playing, and the walls are covered with a wide selection of French wines. You should go early for drinks in the sunny outdoor area before heading inside to enjoy a fancy French meal. I tried watching the sunset from this spot, and it was amazing!

Everything on the menu is meant to be shared with friends and family, so make sure to bring them with you. And the dining experience? It’s definitely one of the best on the island. It stays true to authentic traditional French cuisine while using the freshest Indonesian and international ingredients. The first time you come this way, go with the onion tart or the local clams in a flavourful vinaigrette made with local herbs. Then, enjoy the tender lamb neck cooked in a tasty red wine sauce. Complete your meal with a delicious frozen dessert made with tropical fruits and, of course, enjoy a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

French cuisine may sound too fancy, but a filling meal here is very affordable. So, feel free to bring the entire family plus the kids and see what French cuisine has in store. Enjoy your meal!

5. Ape Club Uluwatu

Are you in the mood for beer and a friendly atmosphere? There’s a new brewery in Uluwatu called Ape Club. This new site just opened in September 2023, but it’s quickly won my heart. I love that the establishment sits on top of 3,000 sqm of land, so there’s a lot of space for enjoying drinks and exploring. But their menu consists of more than craft beers. After your seating, you can also pick a few cheap meals to pair your drinks with. The business even offers fun activities!

Of course, the highlight here is their long list of tasty craft beers, choice wines, and signature cocktails. But I also appreciate that they didn’t just focus on just one cuisine. Because Chef Mauricio Barreto (the restaurant’s chef) is from Mexico, many of the dishes you can order have strong Mexican and South American flavours in them. Still, your options aren’t limited to just famous South American eats. There are also Japanese and Italian influences. Chicken, seafood, beef, and delicious vegetables are all part of the menu.

The best part? It’s so easy to bring friends and family here, regardless of their dietary restrictions. The kitchen staff always tries to make vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian options to make sure everyone has a good time.

Apart from savouring the delightful local craft beers, you can indulge in incredible fire-cooked delicacies like pizzas and desserts. They play cool music and maintain a fun atmosphere while the food is cooked perfectly, with flavours gained from smoking, grilling, and barbecuing.

In addition to a variety of beer selections, delicious pizza, and culinary choices, you will also have the pleasure of experiencing various forms of entertainment, including performances by both local and international DJs and live bands.

6. Numero Quattro (ex-Electric Eel Echo Beach)

Numero Quattro is a new and relaxed place to eat and hang out in Canggu. It opened in July this year and is already getting the tables filled up by locals and travellers alike. This is the newest project from well-known hospitality influencers Tai ‘Buddha’ Graham and Adam McAsey of Project: Black. This beachside bistro is like a second home to you, inspired by nature and located in an area with a great deal of allure. It quickly became one of my favourites because of the diverse crowd there. You have families, couples, backpackers, and locals just looking for a good dining experience.

The relaxed atmosphere here is unbeatable and really reflects everything I love about island living. While I unwind on their soft and comfortable corduroy couches, I have clear views of the stunning Echo Beach. This bistro has two floors. On the ground floor, there is a counter where chefs work and a room where people can eat. If you want to eat your lunch or dinner near the ocean, there is a lounge with a bar and outdoor space where people can enjoy coast views.

Their menu has new versions of old favourites that make you feel nostalgic when you eat or drink them. Go to Numero Quattro for brunches (or breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Try their amazing Deli Sandwich for IDR 140K or their 160g Dry Aged Beef Burger for IDR 110K. If you’re missing a little bit of French flavours, don’t forget to also get one of their freshly baked butter croissants for IDR 30K at the counter when you leave.

For the drinks menu, I’ve had friends tell me about how it really feels like their imagined tropical paradise. So, if you prefer something lighter, give their Mango Mint Smoothie a try for an affordable price of IDR 75K. You can choose from a variety of fresh juices and special coffees at this place, while the starters and smoothies are also popular.

7. Amici Bali

Looking for an amazing new spot in Bali with top-notch Italian cuisine? Go to Seminyak to have a great meal at Amici by Enrico Bartolini. Starting in May 2023, this really great restaurant has become very popular. Amici makes delicious Italian food with a modern touch based on a delicious menu created by Enrico Bartolini, an expert in gastronomy. The menu changes with the season, so make sure to get the latest information from their staff. I like that I can always try something new, but sometimes, I just feel like eating something familiar in the neighbourhood. They also have a wide selection of wines and other drinks, so look into those, too.

Amici is run by Chef Alessandro D’Amico and Chef Marco Oppizio. Try the Prosciutto Crudo Dop Pizza or the Tagliolino Al Pesto Di Rucola Pasta if you want to taste authentic Italian food. Of course, you can get more than just a slice of pizza or a bowl of pasta here. But I’d leave it up to you to discover other European delights that you can get here.

8. BB52 Craft Burger

Uluwatu welcomed the newest BB52 Craft Burgers shop earlier this year. Everyone loves basic but delicious meat sandwiches. But I like to mix it up with more inspired creations. If you haven’t been to the new BB52 Craft Burgers place in Uluwatu (or even their main Canggu location), you’re missing out. They are famous for their creative and delicious, artisanal-style craft burgers, making the typical burger experience feel even better.

Their special menu items include only natural ingredients that are responsibly obtained. They also make their own ingredients for their meals and avoid using artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives. Get their tasty OG Breakfast Burger for breakfast, or choose from their options, like the Crispy Honey Chicken Burger or the Vegan Earth Burger, for lunch or dinner. Get energised with their famous Ginger Beer or Berry Kombucha. With their cheap prices and amazing food, I won’t be surprised to see them in bigger cities and more streets in Indonesia.

Expert Opinion

Living in Bali for ten years means many wonderful lifetime memories to carry. I can actually describe living in Bali with three words: ‘live, adventure, eat’.Bali is not only famous for its stunning beaches, nice villas, amazing resorts, party scene, and vibrant culture but also for its diverse and exciting food scene. And today, you can get practically any kind of food in the region. Whether you’re into Thai, Italian, French, Mediterranean, I’m confident you’ll find a great spot.

In my opinion, one of the best things about the Balinese food adventure is how it changes a lot. Bali will spoil you because new restaurants are consistently popping up every year! Who knows what new restaurant openings we can expect next year?

For now, here are my best selections of new restaurants in Bali:

Yuki Uluwatu, Numero Quattro Echo Beach (ex-Electric Eel), Amici Seminyak

The reasons why I choose these as my three best selections are because of their quality of food, the food authenticity, the beautiful scenery of the venue, the vibes, and their service. Of all the new restaurants, I feel that these three best address the gaps in the dining experience restaurants on the island.

I can only say that, whether this is a return visit to Bali or your first time here… well, you’re in for a treat! Salmon, salads, sashimi, sausages, oysters, pork, crab, chicken satay, nasi goreng, oysters, prawns, and everything else in between? The food scene here is a fun fare for everyone.

Selamat makanand enjoy Bali!
