  • 6. Kokokan

Kokokan fulfills every expectation, positioning itself as a standout new fine dining spot in Ubud. Especially after you try the Le Canard, which strikes the perfect balance between the juiciness of roasted duck and the sweet and sour sauce. Be sure to experience their signature Five Elements—a drink that deserves undivided attention. My favorite is clearly Water with butterfly and lemongrass gin, simply because it’s also my element.

Kokokan defies the fine dining rules, as you can choose the three or six-course dining menu, or you can go a la carte. And you’re in for a surprise if, in the middle of having a bite of L’Agneau (it’s herb-coated lamb cutlet, by the way), evening unfolds with a gentle radiance that graces the night air. Take it as a good omen, as it's rare to witness them in Ubud.

  • How to choose Restaurant in Ubud for Dinner: Notes from Local Expert

✅If a host practically tackles you at the door, run the other way! That's a sure sign it's a tourist trap, and you won't find any locals chowing down there.

✅For a truly romantic evening, seek out a spot with soft, intimate lighting, maybe a charming garden patio, and a short, sweet menu that proves they do a few things exceptionally well.

✅Always look for tasting menus — it’s the best way to understand the place and try all the signature dishes.

✅If you don’t know where to go, go to Monkey Forest Road. It’s a central resto hub where you’ll definitely find a spot to your taste.

✅Sticking to a budget? Your best bet is a bustling warung packed with locals after 7 PM. That's always the golden ticket to delicious, authentic, and affordable eats!
