Today, there are more than 500 fine-dining restaurants in Bali, offering degustation menus inspired by cultures all around the world (Western, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and more) and combining them with local traditions. In this article, we break down a few of our top picks for those looking for a dining experience with a touch of class.

Mozaic Restaurant

When envisioning luxurious diners in Ubud, Mozaic is likely to be one of the first fine dining restaurant options that springs to mind. The concept of the establishment brings together fresh Indonesian produce and French haute cuisine in a harmonious combination, resulting in a mix guaranteed to scintillate the senses and excite your taste buds. What’s more, everything from the restaurant’s cosy vibe and pristine white tablecloths to the stunning views out over the surrounding tropical garden with a river all help contribute towards a serene environment and an unforgettable evening.

The restaurant’s Seasonal and Botanical degustation menu allows visitors to choose between six or eight courses, examples of which include entrées such as seared scallops, foie gras, dry-aged duck breast, alongside many other meat and seafood meals, and dessert options like ginger flower sorbet and red wine ice cream. Complete it with a coconut drink, and you will be in heaven! These dishes, made from the best Indonesian ingredients, are best paired with drinks from the wine list. Don’t hesitate to ask the friendly staff for a recommendation if you’re unsure of what to choose!

Koral Restaurant

Situated within an expansive aquarium beneath the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, Koral is one of the most unique restaurants you could hope to find in Bali. Tucked away within Nusa Dua, not too far away from Berona Bay, this fantastic spot is known for its perfect location and set menus. It is carefully crafted and curated by the establishment’s team of master chefs, who implement their best cooking techniques. Guests can enjoy their meal in what must be one of the most enchanting settings in the world, in an elaborated interior, with dining rooms being surrounded by breathtaking sea creatures flitting hither and thither in the water.

In short, Koral offers a one-of-a-kind, high-quality dining experience for anyone who comes to Bali. Beef, other meats or vegan salads – it doesn’t matter what you like, as the place has everything for everyone. I start to wonder when this place gets a Michelin star, really! Lovers of fine dining and nature alike will be left with a spectacular impression the second they step in through the front door and are sure not to forget their booking here in a hurry.

Di Mare Restaurant

Situated in the centre of the Uluwatu region and surrounded by cliffs, the spot offers fantastic views of the beach and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Your romance with Bali starts here, as with such breathtaking views, this place is an excellent option for those with a passion for high-end cooking in Bali. While the name might remind you of Mediterranean cuisine, it’s not about lobster or other seafood dishes. It’s a unique blend of Balinese, Italian, and European flavours, all cooked in a way that allows you to enjoy the delights coming out of the kitchen entirely. I recommend you tasting menu of theirs personally so that you can see what I am talking about. It’s a place where you can witness culinary magic and get the tastes of signature dishes.

One of the chef’s specialties is a popular fusion dish, Australian Lamb Loin. It is a lamb marinated in a delicious Borneo guajillo chilli paste and then roasted. The delectable result is served with sweet potato and other roasted vegetables, lightly topped with a demiglace mango sauce. Choose one of the wines offered by the place to make your dining experience here even more memorable!

Merah Putih Restaurant

This spot is one of my favourites, as it captures the essence of Indonesian culture and its cuisine in a sophisticated and alluring manner, both through its exquisite meals and its appearance. The venue sets a tranquil tone, with a soft, romantic setting in the dining area, cosy seats, and a high ceiling that creates a light, airy atmosphere with traditional elements in its decor. If you’re looking for something truly authentic with lots of greenery and fantastic jungle views nearby, that’s your place of interest!

If you want a beautiful dinner, consider booking a table here, where tradition meets innovation. While you can’t view rice fields from the windows of the restaurant, you can still feel the delicate breeze and hear the calming sounds of the Indian Ocean while seated on the terrace. The place indeed does everything to reach perfection, so it’s very popular among tourists and locals. That’s why I recommend you make a reservation in advance to get the best seating! Their menu has a lot of traditional Indonesian recipes with a fancy approach. And why not pair your bites with a delightful cocktail, too?

Mama San Restaurant

At Mama San’s, two new eateries now share the same space: Mama San Dining Room and Grill, serving pan Asian fusion plates, and a lounge. Both spaces boast sophisticated décor and architecture, with both restaurant and bar housing cosy green bench seats, dark walls made of wood, mirrors, and classy lighting fixtures. This striking atmosphere is part of what makes Mama San’s such a memorable place, which blends comfort and luxury and helps build anticipation for the culinary discovery that awaits you. You can head to the eatery after visiting Denpasar or replenish your strength after a day on a Seminyak or Legian Beaches – the location of the place is just perfect.

Why not stop in for a drink before dinner? Or to sample their creations: small dishes packed with spices, all bound to tickle your tastebuds. In addition, the gorgeous scene outside is reason enough to bring in patrons from far and wide, making this one of Bali’s top dining spots.

Expert Opinion

I have been living in Bali for ten years and the culinary businesses here are growing rapidly every year. You will always find nice places to eat, or even just to relax with a glass of wine after work.

Many of the people who stay in Bali resorts come here to celebrate, and the fine dining places on offer here – their mains and cocktails, desserts and appetisers – can help anyone throw a celebration in style. So, here are my three best selections of fine-dining restaurants in Bali:

Mozaic, Koral, and Merah Putih

The food quality and varied menu at these venues, as well as the friendly staff and stunning locations – all these things compose an image of a perfect restaurant. These are just a few of the reasons why I consider these restaurants to be some of the best on the island. In the care of some of Indonesia’s best chefs, with great wine selections and stunning settings and interiors, you won’t be disappointed by any of the three on this list. My philosophy is that we only live once, so it is well worth spending your money on a fine dining experience in Bali at least once in your life.

Whether you’re looking to mark a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to a good pizza, burger, or fish dish, the fine-dining restaurants in Bali merit consideration.

Bon appetite and enjoy Bali!
